Renewable Energy Legislation in Turkey

There are many advantages to set up and invest within the Energy Sector in Turkey Turkish electricity market is one of the fastest growing in the world with an average rate of 8% per year. With a significant increase in the energy consumption over the last decade and projected to double the primary energy demand over the next 10 years. The Turkish Government has put an emphasis on incentivizing renewable energy based electricity generation. Thanks to its natural assets, Turkey is in an advantegous position to meet its targets including increasing the installed capacity of renewable energy based power production with wind and solar projects Geo thermal and Hydro in particular – in the coming decades.  

1. Permission

Those who want to install unlicensed Solar Energy Power Plant have to apply to the relevant Network Operation Company in the region where the production facility is to be built and obtain a Call for Letter of Connection Agreement.

2. Power Limit

The installed power of unlicensed solar power plants can not exceed thirty times the power of the connection contract of the consuming plant to be associated with the power plant to be installed.

3. Project Approval

Projects belonging to the solar power plant must be submitted to TEDAS approval within 90 days of the notification date of the Call for Letter of Connection Agreement and approval of the institution within 180 days is required.

4. Connection Contract

An application must be made for the signing of the Connection Agreement to the relevant Electric Utility Company within 30 days from the project approval date.

5. Commissioning

Installation of the Solar Power Plant should be completed within two years from the date of signing of the Connection Agreement and commissioning must be completed.

6. Grid Connection

Following the acceptance of TEDAS, the sale of electricity starts with the System Usage Agreement to be signed with the relevant Electric Utility Company.
